Skyrim Tales: Greysmoke and a Dragon

So far, Greysmoke's not been too impressed with the "civilized" folk she's met.

Rumors of a dragon sighting around Helgen led her to head over to that town, only to find it a burned-down, abandoned wreck, burned corpses everywhere. 'No great loss,' she thought, and then had to dive for cover as, with a great roar, a massive black dragon -- presumably the one that had destroyed Helgen -- soared overhead, heading in the rough direction of Whiterun. And she had just enough of a conscience to head that way to warn people... but first stopped off in the mill village of Riverwood to stock up on supplies and get a job retrieving a trader's beloved trinket.

The bandits were easy enough pickings, especially with the help of her own lycanthropic powers and her two blood-spirit "packmates". The draugr were a little more of a challenge, especially the one at ultimate chamber, but they fell as well.

In truth, Greysmoke knew she didn't have to go that far; she'd gotten the trader's item off the last bandit, but instinct and curiosity led her deeper into the barrow. All the way to the end... and the strangely (and disturbingly) compelling runes carved into the wall...

And an unusual stone. Hm.

Her errand for the Riverwood trader complete, Greysmoke headed to Whiterun. Her meeting with the Jarl went well enough and she had the smug joy of handing the "court wizard" over the strange stone that he was going to send her off to find. Ha ha, one step ahead of you, milk-drinker! >:) She bought a nice collection of spell tomes off the man as well; the more she developed her magic skills, she figured, the less she'd have to rely on possessions.

And then one of the guards came in, breathless, ranting about a dragon attacking the western watchtower. And somehow Greysmoke found herself following the Jarl's Dunmer housecarl out into the darkness to fight a dragon.

Fighting a dragon. In the middle of the night. With Silver Hand and at least one werewolf added to the chaos. Madness!

Greysmoke is no coward, but she's no fool, either. While the others mostly ran about in the darkness, she took cover in what was left of the watchtower, using her conjured pack (both blood-spirit wolves and blue ghostly wolf-familiar), some firebolts, and her bow whenever the beast came in range. The battle was long and vicious, ending just after sunrise, and when Greysmoke joined the others in examining the beast's corpse, its soul-energy somehow got sucked into her, and then the guards started babbling about "Dragonborn" and the Jarl started nattering about going to meet the Greybeards and 7000 steps and... BAH.

Dogs charge heedlessly at stronger, more dangerous animals than they, but wolves... wolves are wiser than that. Greysmoke has no intention of messing with dragons, not if she can help it.

She did, though, accept the services of Lydia as housecarl... provisionally, at least. Perhaps the Nord woman will be a valuable ally... perhaps even a packmate.

Outfitted, outside Riverwood, getting ready to head out to Whiterun.

A distant view of Whiterun.
